Dr. Rick Efird – Board Member/ Coach

Dr. Rick Efird has served as a pastor in Phoenix since 1978.  He was an associate at Camelback Bible Church until 1986 when he left that position to become the Senior Pastor of Desert Springs Bible Church.   After almost 30 years of being a Lead Pastor, Rick resigned from that position in order to invest more time in developing younger pastors and ministry leaders at Desert Springs and in the community.  He loves to shepherd God’s people through teaching biblical truth, providing wise counsel and equipping men and women to reach and disciple others.

Rick’s commitment to the body of Christ goes beyond his ministry at Desert Springs. He was involved with other local pastors and Christian leaders in founding Western Seminary Phoenix, which later became Phoenix Seminary.  In addition to his pastoral responsibilities at Desert Springs, Rick functioned as the interim president of the seminary from 1994-1995.  He has served for over 15 years on the Phoenix Seminary Board of Directors, has taught as an adjunct faculty member and continues to mentor students.  He has also traveled several times to Moscow, Russia to assist Campus Crusade for Christ in equipping men and women to lead the growing church in the former Soviet Union.   He and his wife Emily have made several trips to Africa to help in building homes for orphans in Uganda with the Watoto Children’s Ministry.  They have also traveled to the Democratic Republic of Congo with Mending the Soul  ministry to help men, women  and children who are survivors of some horrific abuse and to train leaders for the Congolese church.

Rick’s preparation for pastoral ministry includes a variety of degrees: a B.S. in Biology from Bryan College, a Th.M. in Pastoral Ministry from Dallas Theological Seminary and a D.Min. degree from Phoenix Seminary.

Rick and Emily have been married for almost 44 years and are thankful for their two sons: Robb and Samuel.  They are also thankful for their daughter-in-law, Amy Mittlestaedt, who is married to Samuel.  To relax, Rick and Emily enjoy taking long walks together and spending time with family and friends.  Rick also enjoys spending time with other men in a variety of outdoor sports: hunting, fishing or playing golf.
