Dr. John Vawter – Board Member/ Coach

Dr. John Vawter spent 10 years ministering with Campus Crusade, including three years as the Northwest Area Director.  In 1977 he became Senior Pastor of Wayzata Evangelical Free Church in Minnesota where he served for 14 years.  His journey next took him into seminary education where he had the privilege of serving as President of both Western Seminary and then Phoenix Seminary.  In 1997, John re-entered pastoral ministry as Senior Pastor of Bethany Bible Church in Tempe, AZ where he served until 2001.

In 1999 John formed You’re Not Alone, Inc. to help pastors and Christian workers whose kids abuse alcohol and other drugs. In addition to conferences held all over the country he developed a daily radio program that was heard on over 390 stations.  The website has proven to be very helpful to over 25,000 visitors a year. Over the years John has had the privilege of consulting with churches as well as serving as Strategic Interim Senior Pastor at eight churches ranging in size from 200 to 2500.

John as served on a number of boards with the Evangelical Free Church and on the Board of Trinity Evangelical Seminary.  He has taught in numerous Doctor of Ministry programs and has ministered in 17 countries. John has a B.S. from the University of Oregon.  He received a Master of Divinity degree from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and a Doctor of Ministry from Bethel Seminary.

John and Susan recently celebrated 50 years of marriage.  They met on the staff of Campus Crusade for Christ.  They call one another their best friends.  Their family includes children Stephanie, Michael and son-in-law Don.
