Dr. Bill Yarger – Director/ Coach

Dr. Bill Yarger has spent more than 45 years serving the local church.  He served as Executive Pastor of Scottsdale Bible Church from 1975 until 1989 as it grew from 500 to more than 3000.  While at Scottsdale Bible, Bill became concerned that the churches of Phoenix were sending their brightest and best away for training in other cities and loosing the mutual benefit of having them remain here.  In 1988 he led a group of local pastors to invite Western Seminary to open a branch campus to serve to Phoenix churches.  Bill served as Vice President of Western Seminary Phoenix and then Phoenix Seminary as it transitioned to independence. During his nine years at the seminary he also taught courses in leadership, counseling and family ministry.

In 1997, Bill’s heart for the local church led him to Open Door Fellowship, a ministry in the inner city of Phoenix.  In 2002, Bill moved to The Woodlands, Texas (near Houston) where he used all of his life experience to help start another seminary and to serve another church.  He served as Vice President of Grace School of Theology until 2006, when he went full time at Faith Bible Church.  Bill served as co-pastor of the church until 2013, when he returned to Arizona to retire near his family.  Over the past 40 years Bill has consulted with more than a hundred churches and organizations. He currently serves as a volunteer at North Valley Community Church.

Bill received a B.A. in Philosophy from the University of Southern California where he studied under Dr. Dallas Willard.  He received his Master of Theology degree from Dallas Seminary where he studied under Dr. Howard Hendricks.  Bill completed his Doctor of Ministry degree from Biola University with a dual emphasis in church leadership and family ministry.

Bill loves vacationing with his family and hiking in the hills near his home in North Phoenix.  Bill and his wife Gwen were married for 44 wonderful years before Gwen passed away in August of 2015.  The Yarger family includes three sons, Paul, David and John, their wives and 10 amazing grandchildren.
